Interview With Artist: Tyson Hall

Born in Manhattan and raised in The Bronx, Tyson Hall started out his artistic journey through graffiti and unique mediums. His abstract style reveals hidden truths about reality.

His art is present in many significant circles. And he spends the majority of his time helping to inspire the youth of the city through speaking and exposing them to art!

What do you do? “I wear several hats: Artist, Actor, Photographer, Educator, Entrepreneur, Real Estate Agent, Father...etc...lol.”

Why do you do what you do?  “It's a part of my DNA. It's who I am. It's my life and my responsibility.”

What other artistic mediums do you enjoy exploring and why? “Acting is my 1st love. Recently casted for Godfather of Harlem. Also a role in American Gangster.”

What is your legacy?  “My children— leaving my artistry throughout the world.”

What inspired you to start your craft or choice of medium?  “I was inspired by the movie that depicted the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat. It gave me the pathway to take my creative talent and use it in a meaningful way.”

What do you want people to feel when they see your work? “Most of my work reflects a Black esthetic, an urban voice or inner city feel. I want people to be able to identify with that and allow it to resonate within.”

What advice changed your life?  “A line from the Bible that says ‘Your Gift and Your Talent will make a way for you’.”

What’s the best Harlem spot for food?  “I have several, but I am big on Corner Social.”

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?  “My spiritual beliefs.”

What skill do you have that feels like your greatest superpower? “My ability to create and conceptualize.”

When you feel creatively stuck or unmotivated, how do you get yourself out of this energy? “I read and use music— often to get inspired, and sometimes I just have to be stuck for a while until....LOL!”

Tyson Hall's work is not on display (and for sale) at NiLu.  We do not charge a fee or receive a commission for sales.  All of sales proceeds go directly to the artist.
